What is on the spot composting? Take photos of the bull snakes for the boys!!
On the spot composting is my atttempt to rectify my 'three time loser' approach to composting. I went to a worm class not too long ago and learned how good worms are for the garden, well they like compost, and even tho' I had that black plastic bin, I never could get it just right, I'd put in layers of dirt, manure, veggies, gras, repeat and etc., turn it, bake it in the heat, moisten it, damn it and never got it to turn into the rich black loam you see in magazines. So I took the damn thing to the dump and bought some compost there, they have a recyle site for yard waste. Then I went to the worm class and something someone said gave me an idea. The teacher said worms only eat composted (rotted) materials because their little mouths are so small. So I thought 'small?, I'll show them small'!! I took my kitchen veggie waste and put it in the food processor-hot damn, food for worms! Then I made a furrow in the garden with a little pointed hoe and spred the stuff into it and voila! worms came and feasted. Now I do that every week.
I haven't seen the snakes anymore-darn!
